Tool – Mandalay Bay

Last month I found out that Tool was going to be playing a few shows across the US, one of them being here in Vegas. I made sure on that day at 10am when tickets went on sale that I was able to get some.

I was able to see Tool last year and wasn’t too overly impressed with that show, but I was blown away with this one. They stuck with a lot of their older stuff. While the seats were kind of nose bleed it was nice to be able to sit back with a drink in hand and watch the show.

I took a few videos and uploaded them to YouTube, while they are not the best it does give you a decent view of the crowd/stage show.

Kat and I got tickets for the Puscifer show in December. I am pretty excited as I ave seen Tool multiple times, and A Perfect Circle as well but never Puscifer yet.

Hard Rock Hotel + Ticket Stubs

I just found out about this today, I am not sure if its a new thing or I have been living under a rock. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino here in Vegas is offering the following deal if you show your ticket stub after any concert.

IDentity Festival

I really need to get on top of posting things right after they happen, else it just seems like old news. Anyways on

labor day Kat and I ended up going to the IDentity Festival over at Mandalay Bay, it was a really good time. We ended up seeing some really good artists though the evening. We cut out early from the festival and made it over to the House of Blues to check out the Disco Biscuits which Kat is a big fan of, was weird they split up the venue like that but in the end it worked out. All in all it was a great time and I look forward to another festival since we always have a blast tooling around at them.

A day in “court”…

Yesterday I finally had my “court” date for my traffic violations I had back in March. I got pulled over on the way back to work from lunch, and got a ticket for Expired Registration as well as an incorrect address on my License.
It was an honest mistake and the following morning I went to the DMV and got it all taken care of. Even doing that I was still worried since I the fine could be around $1000 and the ticket required me to show up in court.
I woke up nice and early as the court house is not that close, and I had to be there by 8am. I arrived at the court house and had a hell of a time getting there since there was road construction, and finding the parking garage was not the easiest to locate. Went through the metal detectors, that was a first for me in a court house. Anyways I was pretty tired, and dressed up to see a judge since those are usually the people that you visit in “court”…. yeah not the case. Being in “court” was more or less being at the DMV. I arrived and got my number and was called to a glass window to show proof of my registration and new ID. That was that, case dismissed.
While it sucks that I had to wake up early, and get dressed up for a court appearance that never really happened. At least I am not out of $1000+, or any money at that.

Concert Update

I have been meaning to post about last weekend, but just haven’t had much breathing room to do so. Last weekend Kat and I enjoyed a weekend of music. We ended up seeing Stephen Marley Friday night and then Cake Saturday night, kind of creating our own 2 day music festival.

Stephen Marley played pool side over at the Hard Rock, while I have started to dig pool side venues the Hard Rock leaves a lot of room for improvement. The performance was awesome, but standing in line for an hour before hand to get in was not so cool. Once inside the standing room in front of the stage was about the size of 8 parking spots, you had to stand around the pool otherwise.

Cake played at The Boulevard Pool located on the 4th floor of Cosmopolitan. They do ticketing a little different here, and I must say I love it. Screw TicketMaster, here you don’t have to pay fees its just a flat rate of whatever they say the ticket will cost. The staff was amazing, didn’t feel like I was getting search before being placed in a cell. Top notch. As for Cake, well I have never had too much exposure to them except what has been played on the radio. Kat on the other hand has wanted to see them for a while, and I am glad she and I went as they put on a great show.

So far this summer of shows has been pretty awesome, and I look forward to all the other ones that Kat and I have planned or are planning to attend.

So after leaving one another on Florida just over a week ago, Kat is flying back today. If it wasn’t for starting a new job to occupy my mind … well I might have lost it and gone insane. Can’t wait to have her back later today…. Now if I can only fall asleep so I am not tired as hell Friday when she gets in.

1yr Kat-iversary

I am really starting to dig my post titles with use usage of Kat in the title, gives them an interesting ring. Anyways, its strange to imagine that this weekend Kat and I will have been together for a year. Seems like only yesterday I had just moved to Vegas and she invited me over to watch a New Orleans Saints football game, which is a whole story in its own. And its really only strange on the aspect of it doesn’t seem that long at all, everything else about what her and I have seems 100% natural. Over the days, weeks, and months together we have shared some pretty crazy times and had some awesome adventures together. Some of the adventures include dragging her to Michigan so she could see the crappy town I grew up in, taking me to her hometown to experience some of the most amazing southern food I have ever eaten. She is defiantly my best friend and I love her with all my heart. We fit together like a lock and key and compliment one another in more than just a few ways. I remember a while back she actually came across a quote by Dr. Seuss and it has stuck in my head since then.

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

That quote totally describes us and and how our goofiness is dead on with one another. I have really enjoyed every minute that her and I shared, and hope that we continue to share so many more. Well enough with the sappy love love, I am sure my balls are going to get busted for all of that… but I guess really I don’t care as I am truly happy.
Annnnnyways back to the weekend plans. I ended up booking a hotel at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and have made some dinner reservations at Nobu. Besides that I think we are just going to relax around, enjoy the alleged rain and possible snow thats coming to Vegas. And everyone else, enjoy your weekend.

Moving back to Vegas

The date had almost slipped me by. I have now been living in Vegas for 1yr, 6 months longer than I really would have cared for. I moved to Vegas to get out of computers for a bit and attempt to work at one of the many clubs or casinos…. And if you know where I stand now you know that didn’t happen, and instead I ended up working for a company that does support for all of the casinos and bars instead. Time like that make me wish I didn’t give up my hosting carreer, but I am trying to work my way back into that as it was something that I can say I actually enjoyed. Anyways Vegas is hot in the summer and pretty cold in the winter, and they lack a real beach.

Vegas Heat, Steak and Computers

Over the past couple of weeks Vegas sure has gotten hot. I had forgotten how hot it gets during the summers here. Ohh well once I get a job I think it will be time to fix the AC unit in my car since it doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Ryan was here over the last week and I wish my luck was as god as his. Seems that he had a lucky streak as he was up around $1000 during the time he was here. Even though I haven’t won like that in a long time, he still treated us to nice steak dinner at Claim Jumpers.
I have started to plan out my new fileserver setup. Mainly I have a dual 1ghz machine with 4gig of ram that I am going t put in pace as the fie server, and then take the d fileserver and make it a MythTv frontend for my bedroom… Lets see how well this ends up working out.

I have really been slacking on site updates, mainly because I have been avoiding my computer in all ways possible besides my daily visits to Craigslist. Even with that I have yet to land a job, but it has still been a blast in Vegas non the less.
My days have been occupied with applying for jobs, interviews and countless rounds of disc golf. I have been working on some site designs for a few clients to bid the time as well.
As for this site I am have had a few design ideas in mind, yet I have not really wanted to take the time to work on it and push through the ideas I have in mind.
This weekend a friend from Michigan is coming to Vegas and then taking a drive to California, I might hitch a ride so I can work on my tan at the beach… If I do I hope to add some photos since I have been slacking on that.
Anyways there is an update to occupy your time for a few until I get around to a full update. Good day.

I have been meaning to write something up about the last couple of weeks in my new home. The move went well, seemed like it was never going to happen but then finally the day came. Had a nice going away party over at Chads, had a few drinks, and then a few more. I will hopefully post the pictures on my flickr when I decide to stop being lazy. The morning after the party we packed up and did the final run through of the place. Then we hit the road, a few hours later than I had planned but whatever. After getting into Vegas we unloaded the truck and then I unloaded the rest of my car. I have now realized that I have a few too many clothes… I should downgrade.
Other than the move I have just been hanging out, enjoying this like a mini vacation. I am liking Vegas more and more everyday, I mean there is a Jimmy Johns and a BW3′s nearby what more can you ask for? I have also discovered a love for Disc Golfing, kind of wish I had picked up on it sooner… but better now then never I guess. I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss the ocean, but its only a few hours away. I am still looking for a dive bar near by, one that is less about the video poker and more about the cheap drinks and good atmosphere.
The only downfall I have found thus far with this place is the fact that you can drink 24/7 … That could end up being a bad thing. On the job front, well thats another story. I had an interview the 2nd week I was here, but still have not gotten the job. Its somewhat depressing when I start to look at bills and rent and know that I dont have the funds… But ohh well I figure everything else fell into place with moving here so maybe a job will land on my lap soon enough.

Lame site and and Xbox to boot

I was starting to think that my site was getting little to no attention.Â I hoped that if I were to update it to the new version of WordPress it would spur my interest again … but yet all it has done is create 3-4 new posts all talking about an upgrade.Â Not exactly what I call good times in the world of blogging.
After hearing Chase talk about his new fairly new Xbox setup with XBoxMediaCenter installed I was wanting to get an XBox and do the same.Â And I think the stars might be aligned just right or something as Brian and I were talking the other day and he actually just picked up an XBox and is looking to sell it, even has the DVD remote which is a plus.Â So after talking with him I was going to go to Vegas and get it this weekend, but I had forgotten this was the same weekend Alexis was coming to visit me for her spring break.Â I have made other plans on getting the XBox though so I should have it Monday afternoon if all goes as planned.Â From there I am planning on installing a new hard drive in it (120 gig) and installing XBoxMediaCenter, this will replace my MythTV Box that I recently created.Â I have no plans on getting rid of the MythTV box but instead I am going to turn that into a Fileserver/Backend/Desktop and just stream all recordings to the XBox.Â I am creating a new category on the site here for the XBox and will be posting updates to how the install goes and everything that I do to it.

HostingCon.2006 and the Vegas Experience Explained

I thought that I would take a minute to sit back and write about the whole trip to HostingCon 2006 in Las Vegas. The drive to Vegas began at 8am on a Sunday, I got there by 11:15am. It was a very hot drive, the Worlds Biggest Thermometer claimed it to be 120 degrees out. After getting to Vegas I just dinked around and got situated for Monday morning. Out of the many pointless trips I have made to Vegas this was not one of them. All in all HostingCon wasnâ€™t as great as I thought it was going to be, but then again I have never been to something like it so maybe I was just expecting more. The exhibit hall was pretty impressiveâ€¦ well most of it was anyways. I got a ton of free Pens, shirts and some other odds and ends. Liquid Web, Microsoft and Modernbill seemed to have the best booths there, the others were just so so. Anyways I learned a lot about SEO/PPC which was my main goal for going. I also learned a lot about Google and how their search engine does the rankings which was pretty interesting. They take a lot of different things into account that I never would have thought of checking. Besides HostingCon I got to hang out with Brian and his Girlfriend which was cool. One of the nights we ended up at the Palms, saw Robert Duvall and ended up in a hotel party on the 26^th Floor of the Palms. Was a sweet view and a nice room, Lil John was even at the party hanging out. The night didn’t end there, but it did end when I was escorted out of the strip clubâ€¦. Gotta love Vegas. On the last night I was there I found a Sony DSC N-1 Camera at a club. Its pretty slick, I can say its better than any other camera I have ever owned.
