NYC and Hurricanes

I just got back from my trip to New York, it was supposed to be a Thursday to Sunday type of trip…. it got pushed to Monday though due to Hurricane Irene which was moving up the coast. Due to this my flight and trip were changed a bit. While it wasn’t a total loss it still screwed things up including changing my flight a day later than it should have been. It sucked that the city was about 98% shutdown so it left little to do bedsides sit in my hotel room and drink away the storm outside my window that was starting to take place. With the lack of “real” destruction that Irene caused I think the city of New York will be somewhat happy that it has earned them a visitor again so that I can redo it. It was really awesome to finally meet the guy in charge, coworker and business partner. It’s really strange to work with people and yet never have met them in person, so it was cool to do so finally.
Over all it was a pretty rad trip hurricane aside, but after about 5 days of of living in a hotel I am happy to be heading back on a flight that actually wasn’t delayed nearly as bad as I thought I was going to be. I am looking forward to the next time I get to hit up NYC, and hopefully Kat will be able to go next time as well. The next time should allow for some exciting photos to be taken rather than the ones I came back with.

Condensed update for End of March and Start of April 2011

Since I am not really keeping up with the whole posting a new post daily like I keep saying I will, thought I would do a condensed post giving a bit of a summary of what has been going on over the last week or so. Maybe I will do this more often…. then again that might just lead to a monthly post instead .. meh
Work
So this is my 2nd weekend working the Sat/Sun shift at work and while its nice to have a few days off of work, I cant say that I am very excited about this schedule. Still holding onto the fact that this is supposed to be a temporary schedule change…. guess we will see how that pans out. The one perk of working the weekend shift is that I don’t have to dress up which makes getting up in the morning that much easier.
Life
Life is really good right now, not a day goes by that I don’t wake up thankful that I have a wonderful girlfriend that puts a smile on my face. She was gone for just over a week to her home town to help her Mom pack up their house so that the new people could move in, and while she was gone it really dawned on me that she completes me in more ways than I can count. Shes is definitely my other half and with out her around I feel like something is missing and find myself walking aimlessly in circles.
Louie and his wife Emily were out here the other week and I got a chance to hang out with them and grab something to eat. Was good seeing a friend of mine that I have known for years. Not to mention the food at Hash House A Go-Go was pretty epic as well. Still trying to figure out what to do for Kats bday as we haven’t really figured if we are taking a road trip or sticking around town, I assume we will probably just kick it in Vegas since about a week after we will be heading to the Hang Out Music Festival in Florida.. but who knows, our adventures no matter how close or are always a blast so it will be fun no matter what we end up doing.
Business
This year I have really been trying to buckle down on getting 878 Studios up and running and being more self sustaining that it has been in the past. I have gotten quite a few new clients and continued to help the ones that have been with me since day one. The main issue I am finding is scoring the next account, while I am putting my best foot forward some people seem like they ask for help then never get back to you once you offer it up. Either way I keep reading up on web technology and emailing leads, hope they all get ahold of me at the same time so I can fill my calendar.

So today wraps up my first day with out smokeing. Over all it was not that bad, the worst part was my bordom… I found myself looking for things to do instead of smoking, not limited to but including working through my break at work. Ohh well I am sure it will get easiser as the days go on.

April Fools joke on the Boss.

So after getting to work today I spoke with my supervisor and told him that I wanted to get our boss today since it was April fools day. I came up with the idea that I would tell her that I was quiting due to how I felt I was being treated here by other employees as well as feeling uncertain on my job security due to the recent lay offs because of the economy.
My boss then explained to me that a lot of things are taken into account on layoffs and that I have great work performance so it should not have to worry about that. I then responded thats good to know especially since its April fools day.
She then tried to reach over her desk to slap and strangle me… mission completed.

So I bought some gold fish in efforts to decorate my desk at work. I have come to notice that I think one of them has been having what I can only describe as a seizure. He sits there for a moment then turns upside down starts to float then comes back to life and shakes around and swims in repeated circles… He is truly odd or had a disorder.

I was really unaware of the “level of FAIL” that it was capable of demonstrating… until now.

TO REPRODUCE:
1) frontend/x3/diskusage/index.html , go to a folder with lots of files in it.
2) Click “Size (MB)” column header to sort.
3) Watch cPanel sort a numeric column alphabetically, but don’t blink because
it also auto-refreshes the page a second later with the original by-name sort
order.
4) Be amazed at the level of FAIL exhibited by a product claiming to be in its
11th iteration.

While the guy does an excellent job in describing what the issue is, the wording is somewhat humorous.

Well I have really been slacking on updates.Â Mainly because I have been pretty busy with coming off of nights and switching to a new schedule, and having people in from out of town.Â I had my birthday the other day, and well I am now a dirty old man.Â I still haven’t updated my theme in ages, and have become even more addicted to social networking sites than I was a week ago.Â I am going to try to get back on track with the updates. Make sure that when you are at the Ocean for 7hrs, that you wear sun block with a higher spf than 5,.. else you can get a bad burn that blisters and makes it a royal pain to sit in a chair while at work.

It has its pros and cons. I mean I get to sleep in … well I mean sort of seeing that I get up at noon but I just went to bed at 6am. I do get to hang out at the beach all day while the rest of the working class is slaving away. umm yeah even with those few pros it still sucks working from 8pm-5am, I feel like I am leading a different life.

Two monster energy drinks and a pot of coffee into the night I am finally at the point where I don’t think I will be falling asleep at my desk.Â For those of you that don’t know I switched over to nights at my job.Â I am working from 8pm-5am PST, its defiantly not the worst schedule for night shift…. though it still sucks.Â The one perk I have discovered is that I can blast my music as loud as I want and not have to deal with anyone complaining how loud my music is, ohh that and I don’t have to answer the phone at all.Â With out those two things it would absolutely suck.Â Besides all of that I think my heart might explode from all the caffeine, so note to co-workers when you get to working in the morning and I am face down on the floor I am not sleeping. I am actually surprised at the length of this post usually I have small 32 word posts as pointed out by Mike.Â Maybe there is something in Monster Energy Drink when combined with coffee brings out the writing side in me… and on that note I am done.

So the other day I went to get some lunch at Trimana right near the office. While waiting in line this guy walks up and asks me if I had ordered yet… I think it was a ploy for him to take my food. Anyways after he walked away from me, probably to go hide behind the trash can so that he could jump me after I got my food. I noticed it was no other than Gene Simmons himself. The overall shocking factor was that the place we were eating is somewhat like a High School Cafeteria, just didn’t expect that the man that once dressed up in a crazy outfit(and still does), and paints his face would eat.Â Other than that lunch was pretty uneventful.Â I really need to find some other places to eat near by as I am getting sick of Panda Express, Starbucks, Trimana… and even Blue Marlin.

Work Desktop

I got bored and attempted to make my desktop at work pretty…. not really much too it, just went with the basics and a girl in the middle. I really need to switch to Fluxbox instead of Gnome.Â But then again Gnome does serve me well as it has about everything included and not to mention is really user friendly.Â Fluxbox still has a ways to go in my eyes with being user friendly.

So many of you have prob. noticed that I haven’t updated this site in a long time, mainly I just have been a bit to busy with work and life.Â I have been trying to get to know the new area that I am living in and just enjoying the people I know in the area.Â I also haven’t really had much to write about in the last couple of weeks since my day mainly consists of driving and hour to and from work, and working long hours.Â The job is treaing me well except for when I am on call over the weekend and the power goes out to the datacenter, that always sucks.
Last week I had to get the brakes fixed on my car and it cost me $600… not only that but some jackass backed into my car while it was in their parking lot.Â I just moved the site over to my V-Dedicated account at work, this way I can tweak around apache/php and other server settings and actually have a production site working to test the load.Â If you notice any errors with slow page loads, pages not loading etc make sure to drop me a comment of a post.
Halloween is coming up and I still dont have a clue of what I am going to be.Â My boss is having a Halloween party so I have to be something else well I will stick out as the ass with out a costume.
I am getting pretty excited to head back to Michigan for Thanksgiving, it will be nice to see my friends and family.Â Not to mention ShelbyCon v2.0 will be taking place which should end up being pretty rad.Â Anyways I need to get some other stuff done around here so I am going to cut this post short, but I will try to keep it updated daily like I used to.

It has been a long time since I posted last, mainly because of the move and getting a new job. Things are finally getting in place and I have a split sec. to post a little something. I have added some more pictures to the gallery and well other than that the site is about the same as it has been for the last couple of months. Living in the LA area is worlds better than Redlands ever was. Some people dont like the cities, I am not one of those people. The traffic can be a little daunting at times but all in all its just a way of life out here so it seems. It takes me about 30 mins to drive the 16 miles to work, and 45 mins if I get on the road late. Work is really keeping me busy, but I dont really mind it as its something that I really enjoy doing so it tends to keep my attention and I am not counting the hours or even minutes before I am supposed to leave like I was at my old job. Well besides the working over the last couple of weeks I have made it out a few times. I even made it down to Santa Monica to have a dirty martini with Allison, and to top it off paid 1.80 per 15 mins of parking too… Parking is lame thats all I really can say about that. Last weekend I went to the Lava Lounge in Hollywood, it was alright. The place reminded me of a Tiki bar of sorts, except they had some hardcore country music playing, I actually kind of liked it as it was heavier than the normal twangy crap. I also ended up drinking some good old Mickey’s Grenades, I bought out the last two six packs the store had and the last two forties as well. Anyways this weekend I might head up to Vegas to hang out with Burge and then to Bakersfield to BBQ with Sean.

Two week notice.

So I gave my two week notice at work last night, August 11th will be my last day. It kind of sucked having to give my notice, I mean even though I might get frustrated with my job its really not all that bad and do work with some decent people. Overall the move and change is what I really need in my life at the moment, and well I live for the moment. Then from there I am heading to live with my cousin Debbie and her husband Charlie in Studio City. Its going to be quite the adventure.
